文章-改变，使生活更加美好 Making the World a Better Place

春已束，夏悄至，一年一度万源城协和双语学校七年级科学展接着五一假期悄然到来。本次七年级科学展以“改变使生活更加美好”为主题，学生通过两年DT课程知识的沉淀，由科学组组织在中外教师的引导下、结合自身，或设计发明或对生活中已有的一些产品进行改进，使我们的生活更加便捷、美好，真正体现课程所追求的理论与实践相结合、做到学以致用。

The middle school of SUIS Wan Yuan held the annual Science Fair on the 6th of May. The main theme of this year’s event was ‘making the world a better place’ – by solving a common life problem using creative ideas. The 7th graders showed the projects they have made during their DT (design and technology) class while visitors got to vote for the best ideas among them. All the visitors were quite impressed by the students’ innovative ideas. And the final projects they made demonstrated well what they have learnt through the two-year DT course. Let’s go take a look!

本次科学展项目选择小组合作的形式，每个小组的学生花了几个星期的时间来完成。主要是在我们的DT (design & technology)课堂完成的。下面是课上的一些精彩过程。学生们很开心能够通过学习制作工艺，利用身边材料，把自己的新奇想法带到生活。

The Science Projects shown are completed in small groups. Students working in teams of two or three finished the whole project step by step during their DT classes. The entire process took around 7 weeks to finish and it well shows their observing minds, good designing skills, and great collaboration. Here are a few good designs before they start to make a prototype of the project.

DT课程的核心之一培养学生设计能力

一丝不苟的制作过程：学生尽可能利用身边的一些材料完成作品，比如废弃的木板、纸箱、家里用过的牙刷等搭配DT教室的工具通过精心设计改造实现自己的想法。

The materials for all the science projects are mainly waste materials that students found in school or at home such as used material, tooth brushes or the leftover materials from previous finished projects. Having mastered the way of using various tools in the DT class, they brought their creative ideas to life with these waste materials.

展板的设计与制作：美术才能的展示，DT课程是一个多学科融合的课程，这里就包含我们的美术学科，学生在板报，学习颜料的调和、上色、搭配等。

A good project cannot be without a good presentation. The science project boards were beautifully designed and painted by each group. This way students get to also hone their art skills. The DT course is designed to be a STEAM course which aims to develop students’ all-round knowledge.

本次七年科学展活动特别邀请六年级全体学生为参观、学习，并评选出他们心中最优秀作品，他们也将会是下届展会的主力军，很期待你们未来更好的创意想法。

Our grade six students happily joined the event also. They were very excited to see a lot of interesting projects and got to vote for the best one. Also, they are looking forwarding to making their own innovative projects for next year’s Science Fair.

 生活中有些时候，可能因为太忙了，往往会忽略生活中那些烦人的小事情，没有时间放慢脚步。科学展不仅为我们的学生提供了一个很好的机会，而且也为学校的所有师生提供了一个很好的机会，去创造性地思考，一些看似微小的行动，却能带来巨大的影响，让我们的未来生活更轻松、更美好。

Sometimes we tend to ignore the small things that we want to improve in our lives because of the fast-paced world we live in. This year’s Science Fair offers a great opportunity not only for our students, but all teachers and staff at SUIS as well, to take a moment and think what seemingly small ideas might actually make our lives better.
